About Us
The Hodgepodge House is home to an artist, a musician, three cats, several pond fish, and a great deal of whimsy. One of our neighbors once asked, “So, is what you’re going for, like, Halloween all the time?” I don’t think we realized it until then, but that is probably the best description of our creative search for magic through a hodgepodge of art, light, and materials.
Why make a website? We get so much joy from our weird, artsy space that we thought we would share. That’s it. 🙂
Nancy is the resident welder, sculptor, painter, fabric artist, and wall creator.
Ron keeps the music alive, and also the plants and the fish pond, which he built from scratch.
We have a whole happy ecosystem of goldfish now, and also a white koi we named Alfredo:
The owners of the house are Trouble (who manifested her name) and Pocket (who used to fit in one):
Also in residence is Ajax, who like us, is basically here to serve the other cats.
Visitors to The Hodgepodge House
We have had a lot of critter visitors to the house, which is probably not a big deal to most, but we live in a very urban area in southern Arizona, next to a very high traffic intersection. We’re excited when we see a feral cat, let alone a raccoon! (They are absolutely not native to this area). We caught this one on camera several nights, and named him Darington. He was grooming himself like the camera was a mirror. So dashing!
Speaking of feral cats, we really do get excited. Nancy even made a little cat doorway in the back of the wall so they could come and go easier. We call it the Gato Grotto:
The Gato Grotto is on the inside of the wall in our side yard, accompanied by a mirror, rock, and glass river…which of course lights up at night:
